My Best Game

Submitted by Michael_Sarmiento on Fri, 05/02/2008 at 4:32am.

Here's my best game ever played at chess.com.

During my first game with a new found friend, I got a good game in the opening until the middle game, but as expected, I cannot properly make use of my advantage leading to a defeat instead of winning.

On our succeeding game, a rematch.... I am very happy that my plans succeeded and my strategies realized.  My first time to beat a strong opponent... but simply because I got lucky. Perhaps he underestimated me or not in a good mood to play.

The feeling of satisfaction filled me, realizing that I'm constantly improving each game. I thank all my friends who supported and gave me tips, and to all members who shared their thoughts in form of forums, puzzles and blog regarding chess tactics.

The biggest part behind my improvement is the chess tactics training here at chess.com

Here it is:

Life is a continuous learning process, and I hope that we may change not just into a better player but most of all into a much better person that we can be. Good luck and  best regards  to all.

Good execution.  The theme of the game is 'piling on pinned pieces'.  Don't forget to recognize the themes of your collected games, so you'll know where your strength lies and what areas you need to keep working on.  Keep playing!

Mr. 123karpov, kindly read the content of the post... it was black who won in the game.... white resigned. Just to clear-up your wrong impression of the game result.

Thanks for posting.  Salamat kabayan....

I am surprised to see you on the Internet.  Well, I am happy to know that you enjoy playing chess.  This is your uncle Jess (Sarmiento), to improve your game, try to borrow a chess book titled anthology of chess combinations...in no time you will play like a master.  If you can't find it....do not tell anybody since i am broke, i will send you some chess books....good luck.....i just sign-in as a member...maybe you can play with me sometime.... take care.   You have a decent game; however, if I have time, I will review your games....I know a Sr. Master here, and I will have him analyze your games.... His name is Alfredo Base, he is a very strong player and beat some Russian Grandmaster and a lot of IMs in 1996 here...

Hey! That is me losing as white!  It was a good game.  I would really like it if someone could pinpoint where I might have gone wrong.  I have 2 suggestions (please comment):

10. Qc2? - I was thinking that protecting the e-pawn and getting a file open for my rook was good, but perhaps I should have played 10. h3  because as you can see, a few moves later, the knight jumps there and ultimately kills off my dark bishop and THEN his queen and dark bishop move in and put some serious pressure on f2.

The only other move I can think of that may have been poor is:

13. Bxg4?  I didnt think I had other option since he had pressure on h2 and f2.  My central knight was essentially pinned because of this, and if I pushed pawns to scare away his knight, my kingside looked real weak.

Oh well.

T'was a good game. I certainly didn't go into it thinking "this guy is easy" I did that our first game and almost lost. This time around I was paranoid.
