Here are two trailers for the recently released French film Joueuse (distributed in English-speaking countries as Queen to Play).

The film stars Sandrine Bonnaire as a French chambermaid on the island of Corsica.  She develops an interest in chess.  She has been cleaning the house of an American doctor (played by Kevin Kline in his first French-speaking role) and he begins helping her practice and improve. She must deal with her growing fascination with the game and with her husband and teenaged daughter. [Plot summary from Wikipedia.]

    Salut Qixel,

A présent en anglais : congratulations for that interest in that french film, not really contained in blockbusters list... Very interesting film indeed with a remarkable Sandrine Bonnaire.

I can recommend you another interesting french film about chess game and psychological strain : "La diagonale du Fou" with a good french actor Michel Piccoli.

So, i'm astonished to see that an american student knows that little known film in States, I think... I want to compliment you for your culture of openness to the world. Best regards...

I just saw this one last night.

I has to stream it from my Netfix account (for free).

I was pleasntly surprised.  A well done movie. The lead Hélène makes you root for her and her situation.  The chess aspect is true to the game.

    I would reccomend it.
