I dont mind helping out at times therefore, I volunteered to be a site "greeter". What gripes my butt is that over 90% of these new people dont even play the game once it starts. Of the approx. 30 games or so,  I am or have been involved in, several didnt even  make a move. Most make one move and then gone, never to return.

I thought I would help the cause - became a greeter - never again - for the most part, rude and abusive individuals who do not appreciate chess - Chuck

I know a lot of people who actually join chess.com and think they will play live or blitz chess on the standard site and then they realise that it is more like correspondence chess and then they give up!  It's part of the risk of being a greeter. You have to think of the benefits too! :)

I played a few new-comers by chance.  They come in with an attitude then figure out it's not so easy, that it does takes a lot of work, get embarrassed and 'quit'.  I figured being a greeter, as you figured out, would be a waste of time.  It would be interesting to know what the "real" number of "players" is.

Thank you. I'm glad to see that I am not the only one that feels this way. But, looking at it from the site's point of veiw, they cant really screen these people either. So it seems we have a "catch 22."

I share your opinions.  A lot of them just sign up just to sign up and not really be part of the community.  Kinda annoying because it wastes our time.
