Put on vacation :(

It's the 3rd time in the last 2 weeks when I was put on vacation having a lot of time left. But this time it's even worse because I was put on vacation when I had 24 hours left or more! I inserted the screenshot above of what I saw today when I logged in at 5 pm my time. When I played my last moves yesteerday at 9 pm my time, all my games had almost 2 days to move or more (except the only 1-day game where it was my opponent's move).

However, when I read my messages saying that I was put on vacation, it said that it's my move in 5 games where I played my move yesterday! :o

Here is the message:

Your Games Have Been Paused

You may have as little as 30 minutes remaining in one or more of your Online Chess games and because you are a Premium Member your account has been automatically set to "Vacation". Please login soon and continue your games!

I played my move in all my games! They were:

vs chessparrot - Qh4

vs willthepizzaking - Qh5

vs Taxi - Bd6

vs Emmaunel-57 - Qd1

vs canh9143 - Bxb4

It seems that there is a very big and annoying bug which doesn't play the moves I play, even though it says "your move has been submitted", moves me onto the next game and shows "waiting..." in the online chess games list!

I am not doing anything with my games now, but I hope it can be fixed asap! Otherwise I'll soon lose my last vacation days and I will time out before April :(

The vacation time is messed up. I have seen this too. It puts you on vacation sometimes when you know you have over 8-10 hours left to move-then it sucks your vacation time when you didn't want it to start it in the first place because you still had that much time to move in the game. It needs to be fixed. Whether you seem to think so or not, kohai, we are trying to tell you there is definitely something wrong with it and it should be looked into more fully.

there is not an auto-delete after you unpause the games.

     tdbostick,

You maybe right about the quality of the games when we play hundreds of them.

But that isn't the problem here. The problem is that chess.com is wrongly putting members on automatic vacation when they are not supposed to.

Don't play so many games at once!  I couldn't even imagine playing 256 simultaneously, but I've noticed the quality of my play improves as long as I'm only playing about 10-20 games at a time.  As soon as I have too many going at once, I tend to make moves without properly analyzing them first, and my rating drops because I lose.  The top players here at chess.com usually only have ten or fewer games going at one time, by the way.

I've also noticed that players who have multiple hundreds of games are very slow and tend to hold up tournaments.  Even if they log on every day and make moves in 50 games, their overall progress in individual games is slow.

so autovacation adds another 24 hours?

You know, you can also turn off auto-vacation if you wish as well in the online chess settings by turning off vacation.

So far, there is no improvement or initiative by Chess.com to improve the situation. In no time, very soon there will be no more available vacation time left for me as every day it triggers.

Well, this is just to let Chess.com know that once I don't have anymore vacation time left, I'll quit Chess.com and will never ever enter or coming back again. Chess.com is only after money BUT not in providing good service.

Seems to me that the anomaly or aberration is not recognized or not well understood in spite of the many examples provided by members, and that further more explicit info is perhaps needed to pinpoint the problem accurately to help resolve the paradox and provide a satisfactory solution.

So what is needed? So that we can all rest in peace and put this case to sleep once and for all to the satisfaction of all parties?

I know I have 3 hours left on my move but when I locked in, similarly, it says I was barely 30 mins left and it triggers "on vacation" too. Not only that, it added in another 24 hours and a total of 27 hours.

There must be a serious flaw in chess.com on "vacation time" management. I rationed my time well but if this situation don't improve, very soon I would lose my remaining balance of "vacation time" unnecessarily.

This is a serious flaw in chess.com . I planned to upgrade to premium this april for only one reason, auto timeout protection, but now I won't go ahead until this matter is orted out.

I think that the answer to the challenge of vacation time is going in a circle from alpha to omega and only loops the loops with the same incongruity on both sides that sounds like a recorded tape. Some elements of the frustration experienced by members for vacation time being truncated is missing here.

What is perhaps needed is to move to a different frame of reference, outside the circle, to view the dilemma from a different angle.

And this new viewpoint or perspective, which seems to be a Pandora's box as to its content, maybe tackled by thinking customer or membership satisfaction.

What can chess.com do to address this fact of vacation time being reduced without proper, valid or logical justification in the mind of the members?

Bottom line is : how seriously is chess.com addressing this loss of time vacation which I also have experienced many times as well and is reducing seriously our true vacation time to be away from chess, we not need a vacation once in a while?

Message for vacation time is 30 minutes left to play a move, my own words, when in fact there is 90+ minutes left to play a move in a given game, is it because the screen needs refresh like pushing the f5 key on the top of the keyboard? And if so can chess.com perhaps:

!. Confirm that a move has been accepted and ask to submit again, I do know that to submit again is at times suggested as it says that the screen is not current, probably means that it timed out and here again it would be educative to know when a screen times out, after 30 minutes or…?

    2. Highlight by giving a clear message as to the consequences if a move is not made within the next 30 minutes, perhaps with a yellow or red blinking message, saying that 24 hours will be deducted from the vacation time if not answered in due time.

    3. Perhaps consider adding an additional 30 minutes response time if someone has a few games to respond to with the next move.

This write up had 3 goals:

    1.     To try to address and analyze the vacation time issue.

    2.     To review possible solutions.

    3.     To propose a plan of action to solve to the member’s satisfaction the concern at stake.

[COMMENT DELETED] Double posting, actually another anomaly that needs to be fixed. I post a comment and it does not show, I press f5 to refresh the screen and still not posted , so I post again and end up with 2 postings of my comments.

Are any suggestions to help resolve in the works?

Or is more information needed to better understand?

If so, just ask and we will provide.

I now put myself off vacation, and the games aren't showing on the list at all. The first (top) one is the acqtomo game.

Yes and it's my move despite me being on vacation... :/

Now I am making last try to save those games, otherwise I will be forced to either offer draws or give up...

It's ok with adding 24 hours to the clock when the time is running out. But it's both unfair and pointless adding 24 hours when I have 40 hours left.

I think the issue could be sorted out if the server would accept all moves or show the games in the online chess list yet again if the move hasn't been accepted. This way, if some bug doesn't accept the moves, I would try again and again until it's accepted. But now, showing my opponent's move, I can't see which game has triggered this bug.

    Kohai, any ideas?

Sorry re: the below comment I realize now kohai answered this when stating that auto-vacation adds 24 hours to the clock...

As someone who is used to the auto-vacation feature (sorry some players! ;) ) I am positive it didn't used to work this way, I would get put on auto-vacation and then after putting off my vacation timer I'd feel some pressure to get and make some moves!
