The Wing Gambit

I like the Wing Gambit 1e4,c5 2 b4... Win, lose or draw it gets away from the Najdorf, Taimanov and all and it adds some adventure to the play. True,THEORY frowns on it, but I am a club player not a Master. At my level is is playable. Anyone else out there lay it or have any thoughts on it ?? Cool

I am in a variety of groups that are using this opening with a (so far) 100% win rate for white!!

I am also using this opening in a few of my games and as my ratiing suggests I have a lot to learn x

I play it blitz otb all the time, and I intend to use it on longer time controls this winter.

This is my favorite game played on chess.com using the wing gambit:

With correct play I'd say black is fine in this variation, but it's not all smooth sailing. You get nice attacking chances for a measly wing pawn and it's fun to play, and the shock value is an extra bonus. I love wild gambits in long time control play because at club level most of your opponents get very nervous.

GM Sherbakov has been known to play and win with it in "real" matches, so it can't be all without merit even in higher level play.

If the gambit is accepted, the stats aren't so good for white:

But perhaps you have a favorite continuation you'd like to share that works well for you.
