Third Round Against Master-Level Player

Hello chess friends! Today, I had an interesting game against a Serbian National Master. He was rated approximately 2200 and I drew him once in a previous tournament. In today's game I had the black pieces and used the French Defense for the first time in a serious game. It was quite exciting because my opponent chose the Chigorin variation (2.Qe2). I developed my pieces very flexibly and soon got an advantage. Here is the game:

Wow, that was a rush! What I am most proud of in this game is the move 24…g4 which I didn’t see initially, but after I kept searching for active moves, it came up to me. What is quite curious is that, when I started my attack, I kept thinking of how Fischer would play, if he had my position here and tried to guess what he would do afterwards. I am sure he would have been proud to have such a game!

verticle5: Thank you, I really liked the game and especially the moment where I opened the white king Wink My decision to choose the French was intentional since I expected 2.Qe2 by my opponent. Preparation before the game is one of the most important things in such a strong championship :)

davidmelbourne: I also thought of 30...Bxe5, but what I hated was the bishop capture 31.Bxa8 which in the same time opens a flight suqare for white's king to go on g2 and it's hard for black to prove that the sacrifice was sound.

30...Bxe5 looks quicker than the natural Rf8, at least to my low rated eyes, but a lovely piece of work; I would be immensely proud if ever I authored a game of such quality. Well done and thanks for sharing it:)

Great game!  Was your decision to use the French strategic ( didnt think your opponent was prepared for you to play it) or more for fun?  Had you planned to play it or was it decided on the spot?
