Unsteady Ratings

Submitted by DaveBunn on Fri, 03/06/2009 at 5:46pm.

When I sent challenges to those within my capabilities, my ratings rises up tremendously. And it frightened me, so I started to send challenges to those who are much more higher than my ratings. Hopefuly I would be able to know the benchmark or where my actual ratings are.

Well, sometime I win and sometime I lose. Blunders were made when my lust for creativity takes over my game. My major weaknesses in chess - I find that book moves are so boring to play. And that's why I always deviates from the normal moves. (Those who had played against me, maybe they did notice my moves).

Anyway, I'm not going to worry about my rating anymore. What is important to me right now, as long as I enjoys the game and my understanding of chess play improves with the game. This really matters to me.

Playing on line game, and with so many games in progress - you just couldn't have the luxury of a good focus and deep thinking.

One thing that I had found out is that, in the OTB game, you have one and half hour of play each player. You really could execute your moves, rehearse your game in your mind. Most of the time, you are able to concentrate and even could "by heart" your moves.

I totally agree, playing too many games just for the hell of it, cooks your brain, Iv'e played some brilliant games and then made the most stupid moves a real beginner wouldn't make.Iv'e also cut down my games, remember it's quality not quantity.

Sanaz01, actually it is not that difficult to play a good chess game if you could concentrate and think properly. But when you are a chess addict like me, you want to play as many games as possible, then you're caught in the middle; to play a good game or to complete your chess round within the time frame. Only then you would have realised that there is not much room for deep thinking. Most of the time, your game are short of planning and it is a move by move type of a game.

I've learned from my lesson well. Once my total number of games in progress are reducing, maybe I could play and think at ease. Hopefully by then, I'll be able to play a good game without much trouble to worry about the time limits.
