Why 2. Bc4?

I've seen this opening played against me, 1. e4 c5 2. Bc4? Is there any reason for this instead of 2. Nf3? I don't see 2. Bc4 much in Game Explorer. Thanks!

    2. Bc4 is very respectable, if unusual. John Nunn inspired some interest in this opening as an alternative to the Lopez, and has played it over 3 decades.

I usually respond with 2... Nc6 to develop. In explorer there aren't many games.

Bc4 just attacks your f7 square, which can be a weakness. Personally, I play Nf3, altough Bc4 is common later on in a sicilian. Simply play 2. e6 as plack to protect that f7 square, then develop normally.
