Why is Kxg4 illegal? The bishop is pinned right??
otsocnasaj

Saludos

Ke5 is legal in your example because the black king isn't putting himself in check (the pawn is advancing up the board, not down).

Then WHY is Ke5 a legal move here? According to the arguements here Ke5 should not be a legal move, yet the software says it is.
Before it would be illegal for the white bishop to move, it would be illegal for the black king to put himself in check.
I TOTALLY understand all that, this is more a PHILOSOPHICAL question, think about it, the king "technically" wouldnt be in check because the bishop cant move. It would be illegal FIRST for the bishop to move, so tecnically the bishop could not attack ANY piece in that diagonal i could put a queen there and it wouldnt be under attack it, it seems interesting that just pointing a gun with no bullets at a king would constitute check, thats AAALLL im saying.

regards,
The bishop is pinned for the same reason Black can't play Kxg4: it's illegal to put your king into check.
Look at it this way: the spirit of chess is that the winner is the player who captures the opponent's king. (In actuality, with the exception of the stalemate rule, the winner is the player who first demonstrates that they can capture the opponent's king.) In that light, even if Kxg4 Bxg4 1-0 leaves the white king vulnerable, White has already won.
