It's been sometime since I played chess. Finding this site brought back old memories when I would play tournment chess in high school and college. Learning to play the various openings and defenses were never exciting as learning pawn formations for attack and defense. I remember a primer on pawn formations which I haen't since in over 50 years. From this I learned end games using pawn formations to win. I remember how to mate with a bishop and a knight which is easy to do when you know the technique. Also in the end game coming down to pawns deciding which color bishop you wanted to use with the the of pawn formation you developed.
So much for memories now. More later.
